Possible Penalties for Failure to Report Address Changes

Asylum applicants under the MPP will be issued an Order of Deportation, a fine or 30 days in jail if they fail to report address changes.

If asylum seekers under the MPP who are already in the U.S. for their court date, after having waited a long time in Mexico, do not inform the U.S. immigration authorities of their change of address, the consequences would be devastating, as failure to do so could result in a failure to notify the U.S. immigration authorities of their change of address, Failure to do so could result in the failure to send a Notice of Court Hearing to their current address in order to appear before an Immigration Judge, and would logically result in deportation in absentia, a fine, or imprisonment for up to 30 days, in addition to jeopardizing their ability to obtain a visa or other immigration benefits in the future.
