Immigration reform not included in “Reconciliation” package.

The Senate’s top advisor refuses to include legalization of undocumented immigrants in the “Reconciliation” package.

Attorney Elizabeth MacDonough sent her response to Congress and rejects recommending the inclusion in the “Reconciliation” package the path to residency for millions of undocumented immigrants.

The office of the Congressional “Parliamentarian” on Sunday rejected a request by Democrats to include in the budget package the legalization of millions of undocumented immigrants in the 2022 budget debate.

MacDonough noted in his report that lawful permanent resident status “Comes with a wide range of benefits that go beyond social safety net programs,” and that generally speaking, “Given that most of the beneficiaries of this policy change do not have status, there will be other life-changing federal, state, and social benefits of having LPR status.

“What are the alternatives out there for reform?

  1. Submit a new proposal to the parliamentary official, attorney Elizabeth McDonough.
  2. Seek 60 votes with the help of the Republicans, which is difficult.
  3. “Pro-Immigrant” organizations suggest to the president of the Senate to continue with the reconciliation process, without counting on the decision of the official, since McDonough is only an advisor who depends on the Senate.
