A federal court allowed President Donald Trump’s administration to continue applying expedited removal throughout the United States.
Expedited removal is a fast-track process that may allow a person to be removed from the country without a regular hearing before an immigration judge. This measure may especially affect people who entered the United States irregularly and cannot prove that they have been in the country for at least 2 years.
However, it is important to clarify that not all hope is lost. If a person fears returning to their country because they have suffered persecution or faces a real risk, they may have the right to request a credible fear interview. If they pass that interview, they may have the opportunity to present an asylum case.
Every immigration case is different. If you or a family member has questions about expedited removal, asylum, credible fear, or any immigration process, contact our office for legal guidance.
