Federal judge blocks ICE arrests in immigration courts #immigration #jesusreyeslaw

A federal judge has ruled that ICE must reduce its presence inside immigration courthouses across the country, not just in California. According to the ruling, ICE agents should no longer be stationed inside immigration court buildings to arrest people who are simply showing up for routine hearings, at least for now. The judge stated that the administration was wrong to reverse a longstanding policy that generally limited courthouse arrests, calling the change “arbitrary and capricious.” The ruling also limits courthouse arrests to only the most serious cases involving dangerous criminal suspects. This decision is important because fear of being arrested at court can prevent people from attending their immigration hearings and taking the steps needed to continue their legal process. However, this does not mean that immigration cases are automatically protected or that ICE cannot take action in other situations. The government is expected to challenge the ruling, so the legal situation may continue to change.
