Did you know that despite having a removal order, you may still be able to obtain discretionary status in this country, along with a work permit and the possibility of obtaining a driver's license? When a person has a removal order, that is not the end of the world. Alternatives exist that allow that person to reopen their case and, in the process, obtain certain immigration benefits.
One way to obtain these immigration benefits is through a stay of removal. This must be approved by immigration authorities, and if approved, the applicant may obtain a work permit and the possibility of remaining legally in the United States at the discretion of immigration authorities. There is also what is known as deferred action, which has the same legal effect.
