USCIS increases many of its fees

According to information published on its official website, some fees suffered increases of more than 80%. For example, the N-400 form to apply for Naturalization went from $640 to $1,170, an increase of 81%.

Likewise, petitions for H-1B and L-1 foreign workers went up 75%, as well as extensions to the immigration status of students and fiancées of U.S. citizens.

While some adjustments took effect immediately, others will be implemented in the coming weeks, such as green card renewals and changes of status for non-immigrants.

Increased costs of immigration procedures cause great concern. For its part, the Federal Government indicates that this increase seeks to guarantee the operational sustainability of the USCIS to continue processing the more than 8 million applications it receives each year.
