New Asylum Fees Explained

Starting in July 2025, an initial fee of $100 was established for anyone filing a new asylum application (Form I-589). In addition, everyone with a pending case must pay an annual fee of $100 starting October 1, 2025, and every year thereafter while their case remains open.

How do I pay?

• Affirmative asylum (USCIS): http://my.uscis.gov/accounts/annual-asylum-fee/questionnaire

• Defensive asylum (EOIR/Immigration Court): http://epay.eoir.justice.gov/index

Please note that there are no exemptions for these fees. If you do not pay, USCIS may reject your application or send you a notice to correct the deficiency. In court, the judge may also require proof of payment.
