Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuela has gone through several designations since 2021. In 2026 there are people with active TPS, people eligible under a more recent designation, and people who may need to re-register. This guide clarifies where you stand and how to proceed.

What TPS is

TPS is a temporary immigration benefit that allows nationals of certain countries to remain in the U.S. and work legally when returning home would be dangerous due to armed conflict, natural disaster, or extraordinary conditions. It is not permanent residency and is not a direct path to a green card.

Who can apply in 2026

To be eligible you generally must show:

• You are a Venezuelan national (or a stateless person who habitually resided in Venezuela).
• You have been continuously present in the U.S. since the date the current designation requires.
• You have continuously resided since the applicable residence date.
