Clarifying questions regarding new Asylum fees

It's now crucial to pay a fee to keep an asylum application active. Failing to pay the filing fees on time could technically lead to a denial of your asylum case.

Here is what you need to know based on your filing date:

If you filed your application BEFORE July 2025:

You do not have to pay an initial fee.

However, you are required to pay an annual fee.

This annual fee must be paid starting October 1st of this year.

If you are applying for asylum STARTING July 2025:

There is an initial fee that must be paid to USCIS or the immigration court to file the application.

After that, you must pay an annual filing fee every year.
