Under this executive action, the plan being developed would limit the number of people who can apply for asylum. If there is an average of more than 5,000 people applying for asylum per day in a given week, any applicant beyond that number would not be able to apply for asylum. In addition, if 8,500 people apply for asylum in a single day, the government could close the border between the U.S. and Mexico and completely restrict people from applying for asylum there.
