The President of the United States, Donald Trump, made the decision to extend for 12 months the Deferred Enforcement Departure Program known by the acronym DED. This program began on October 1, 2007 and since then, has continued to be extended – benefiting approximately 200,000 immigrants.
The Presidents reason for extending this program is largely owed to the fact that the situation in West Africa in general is still worrying due to a number of conflicts.
According to the media, the President and Executive Director of the National Committee of Lawyers for Civil Rights, Kristen Clarke, highlighted that this victory is the result of a courageous organization of groups such as UndocuBlck Network and African Communities Together. Mr. Clarke also recalled that today’s decision provides relief to thousands of Liberian immigrants who have contributed peacefully to their communities and the US economy for decades.
